Wipro Earthian Program 2021-22, Ladakh
Preeti Chauhan from Navikru Eco Foundation (a subsidiary company of Little Green World) was selected as a Sustainability Educator for the Ladakh region by Wipro Foundation for their Wipro Earthian Program for Schools.
​
This program is comprised of a national-level competition focused on three themes “Sustainability & Waste”, “Sustainability & Biodiversity” and “Sustainability & Water” followed by a Continuous Engagement program.
​
Depending on the requirement of the region training on a selected theme from the main three themes was given.
​
To make participation easy, we developed a Ladakhi YouTube channel that has all the three themes explained in Ladakhi.
​
We have successfully implemented this project and also reached places such as Zanskar, Changthang, and Kargil for the first time.
Under this program total of 52 schools and 75+ teachers were trained for the Wipro Earthian Program across Ladakh.

And approximately 150+ students participated in this activity-based learning program and the competition.

Project Aqua Leh, Ladakh
As per research in 2018, 50,000 plastic water bottles were dumped at Bombgarh, the dumping ground of Ladakh in tourist season.
​
Tourists choose mineral water bottles over tap water due to various reasons.
​
LGW is focusing on building sustainable alternatives by introducing Biosand Water Filter and reducing packaged bottle usage and this project is called "Project Aqua Leh".
Biosand Water Filter (BSF) which uses majorly locally available resources, does not require electricity to operate, and has negligible maintenance.
​
LGW team is developing multiple customizations in the BSF to withstand the extreme winters of Ladakh.
Zero Waste Phukthar Monastery Training, Zanskar, Ladakh
On August 06, 2021, team Little Green World visited one of the holiest and sacred Phukhtar Monastery in Zanskar.
One has to trek 6kms one way to reach this monastery as it hasn't gotten access to the road yet which has also preserved this monastery and its culture for many many years.
In Collaboration with the Sub District Magistrate and the Block Development Officer, the LGW team conducted a Zero Waste Phukhtar Monastery training.
​
Though this monastery really doesn't need a lot of training as they are well versed and practice the right things.
​
But sadly the monks of this monastery do not have solutions for plastic and which they generally burn. LGW tried helping them with the different solutions and also gave training on how they can reduce and pave a path towards making this Monastery zero waste.
The Himalayan Cleanup 2021, Ladakh
LGW collaborated with Zero Waste Himalaya, Integrated Mountain Initiative, and WWF India and took lead for The Himalayan Clean 2021 for the Ladakh region.

This year the cleanup was done from home. LGW with WWF India conducted orientation training and guided the 70+ participants from Ladakh.
​
The Himalayan Cleanup 2021 included waste collection, waste segregation, waste audit, brand audit. This event helped us in understanding the different types of waste generated in the Ladakh region and raise our voices backed with data.

Zero Waste & Circular Economy amongst Tourism Establishments, Ladakh
LGW received a mini-grant from GAIA (Global Alliance for Incineration Alternatives) to advocate for zero waste in the covid economic recovery policy.
​
As a part of this project, we conducted a waste reduction and environmental awareness survey for the hotels, homestays, guesthouses, and restaurants in Leh, Nubra, Changthang, and Kargil regions of Ladakh.90+ tourism establishments participated in this survey. 50+ tourists were also surveyed to understand their behavior when traveling.

A training on "zero-waste and circular economy" is conducted for the owners/managers of tourism establishments. Posters of various zero-waste practices are also given to these establishments.

Zero Waste Village, Ladakh
LGW collaborated with the Young Drukpa Association (YDA, Ladakh) in November 2020. This collaboration aimed at training villagers and YDA members to go beyond the cleanup drives.
​
LGW conducted training in Ranbipur, Chuchot, and Shey villages.
​
This program went on hold due to the rise in covid cases in the region.
